Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated 25 October 2026 · Version 2026-10-25.2 · Surf Platforms Inc.

Meridian exists to help people research, understand and report on conflict and geopolitics. This Acceptable Use Policy is part of the Terms of Service and applies to your use of the Service and of anything you obtain from it, on Meridian or elsewhere. Surf Platforms Inc. decides in its reasonable discretion whether conduct violates it.

01Permitted use

You may use the Service for research, journalism, education, policy analysis, humanitarian work and personal understanding of events, and quote it with attribution as the Terms allow.

02Harm to people

You may not use the Service or anything obtained from it to:

  • locate, track, monitor, surveil, stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, dox or harm any person, including by following the aircraft, vessels, vehicles, addresses or places linked to a private individual;
  • identify, contact, expose or harass victims or witnesses, including victims of sexual abuse, or anyone who is or appears to be a minor;
  • incite, plan, direct, finance or support violence, terrorism, an attack, hostage-taking or any other crime, or support any organisation designated as terrorist under U.S. law;
  • select, locate or engage military or civilian targets, adjust fire, or make any decision about the use of force; or
  • discriminate against anyone on the basis of a protected characteristic.

03Truthfulness and reputation

  • Do not defame anyone, or present a graded, disputed, contested, leaked or machine-generated claim as established fact, or the mere appearance of a name in a document as evidence of wrongdoing.
  • Do not use the Service to run or support coordinated inauthentic behaviour, disinformation or influence operations, or to fabricate, alter or misattribute documents, images or evidence.
  • Do not represent that Surf Platforms or Meridian endorses you, your work or any claim, or impersonate Surf Platforms, Meridian or any other person.

04Data, scraping and commercial use

  • Do not scrape, crawl, bulk-download, cache, mirror or systematically extract the Service’s contents, data, grades or outputs, or access it by automated means, without our written permission.
  • Do not resell, sublicense, publish as a dataset, or commercially exploit the Service or its contents, or use them to build or train a competing product, database or machine-learning model.
  • Do not compile dossiers or profiles on private individuals, or combine the Service’s data with other data to identify or track them.
  • Respect the licences of source material, which may forbid commercial use or republication.

05Accounts, limits and the analyst

  • Do not share, sell or transfer an account, create accounts to evade a suspension or allowance, or get around access levels, rate limits or the analyst’s daily allowance.
  • Do not attempt to make the analyst reveal its instructions, other users’ data or credentials, to bypass its safeguards, or to produce content this policy forbids.
  • Do not submit classified information, export-controlled technical data, malware, other people’s personal information, or material you have no right to share.

06Security of the Service

  • Do not probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Service or its providers except as section 8 permits, breach or circumvent authentication, or access data that is not yours.
  • Do not interfere with or disrupt the Service, overload it, or introduce viruses, worms or other harmful code.

07Law

Do not use the Service in violation of any applicable law, including privacy, data protection, sanctions, export-control, anti-terrorism, intellectual-property and computer-misuse laws.

08Reporting security vulnerabilities

We welcome good-faith security research. If you believe you have found a vulnerability, email legal@surfplatforms.com with enough detail for us to reproduce it. While researching:

  • test only against your own account, and access, change or delete no one else’s data; stop and tell us as soon as you encounter anyone else’s information;
  • do not degrade the Service (no denial-of-service, spam or social engineering), and do not test our third-party providers;
  • keep the vulnerability confidential until we have fixed it or 90 days have passed since your report, whichever is sooner, unless we agree otherwise.

If you follow these rules, we consider your research authorised, will not pursue or support legal action against you for it, and will work with you to understand and fix the issue. We cannot authorise testing of systems that belong to others.

09Enforcement and reporting

We may investigate suspected violations, remove content, limit features, suspend or close accounts, and cooperate with law enforcement where we believe the law requires or permits it. Report misuse of the Service to legal@surfplatforms.com.
